Ukrainian typhlology: thirty years of independence
Abstract
It is established that Ukrainian typology now faces the tasks of methodological reflection, understanding of its own historical path and current status.
It is stated that typhlology has traditionally been defined as a branch of defectology that unites the sciences:
typhlopedagogy, typhlopsychology, special methods of teaching and educating the blind and visually
impaired, the history of typhlopedagogy, typhlotechnics. It is established that Ukraine’s independence
has posed a problem for the development of the theoretical basis of the educational process of children
with visual impairments, as the purpose and objectives of education of persons with visual impairments
have changed radically. It is proved that epoch-making changes took place in the legislation, terminology,
structure of educational institutions for the visually impaired, in typhlological theory and practice.
