Abstract

The article highlights the relevance of supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the context of the full-scale war in Ukraine, with a particular focus on families raising children with special educational needs (SEN). The authors emphasize the multiple vulnerabilities of such families, which stem not only from forced displacement but also from psychological trauma, social isolation, and limited access to educational and medical services. In this context, the psychologist plays a central role, extending beyond traditional counseling to include coordination of interdisciplinary cooperation, facilitation of teamwork, participation in the development of individualized educational paths, and parental support in crisis situations.

The article analyzes the functions of psychologists across educational, medical, and social spheres and underlines the necessity of coordinated collaboration among professionals. It explores key challenges and principles for building effective interdisciplinary teams. Particular attention is given to the importance of an individualized approach to each family, taking into account the emotional state of both parents and children, as well as fostering stress resilience and parental competence. Recommendations are provided for improving psychologists’ training, organizing systematic community-based cooperation, and developing methodological support for IDP families.

This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the psychologist’s role in the current socio-humanitarian context and substantiates the effectiveness of an interdisciplinary approach as a key factor in providing comprehensive support to families raising children with SEN.
