PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PEDAGOGICAL SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN WITH DOWN SYNDROME AND THEIR PARENTS
Abstract
The article reveals the relevance of the problem of harmonizing the psycho-emotional state of children with Down syndrome and their parents. An analysis of special literature, modern domestic and foreign research on psychological and pedagogical support of children with special educational needs and their families is presented.
The theoretical foundations of psychological support are revealed: the interpretation of psychological support as a holistic system of help and support for a child with a disability and his parents, which consists in preventing and overcoming life's difficulties, socialization difficulties, and harmonizing relationships with others.
The problems of organization and implementation of psychological support for children with Down syndrome are characterized, which is considered in the context of solving issues of social development, the formation of a positive self-concept of such a child and his psychological rehabilitation and social adaptation in interaction with family members.
The practical experience of harmonizing the psycho-emotional state of children with Down syndrome and their parents in the project: «Inclusive Restart: psychosocial recovery for parents and children of IDPs and persons with disabilities» is represented.
The issue of organizing a common inclusive space with the aim of providing psychosocial support to mothers with children with disabilities, therapeutically removing them from the routine course of life filled with traumatic factors (danger, emotional stress, loneliness) is highlighted.
Attention is focused on the importance of the coordinated work of the project team, which involves the involvement of teachers, parents, and the creation of a positive microclimate in the camp. Prospects for further research on the outlined issues are presented.
A common inclusive space for children with disabilities contributed to the ability to imitate the behavior of peers and adults, to learn from their example, to show their own abilities, for parents - new acquaintances with the prospect of further communication, opportunities to express themselves, exchange experience. Physical activities for parents and children gave an opportunity to take care of their mental and physical health, to spend time with children in joint activities.
