Abstract

The purpose of the article: to identify modern problems of diagnosing and overcoming selective mutism in children of older preschool age and to justify the possibility of using a systems approach in organizing the process of providing them with comprehensive medical psychological, psychiatric and correctional pedagogical assistance.

Research methods: theoretical analysis of research, generalization, systematization of international practical experience in diagnostics, treatment, speech therapy support of children with selective mutism.

Research results. Selective mutism in older preschool children is a disturbing, emotionally driven mental disorder characterized by the inability to communicate verbally (and in some cases non-verbally) with individual persons or in individual social circumstances while maintaining the ability to speak and understand speech. Тhis phenomenon distorts the normotypical mental and general development of the child, negatively affects academic performance during education, limits his communicative abilities, which significantly complicates the social adaptation of the individual. To date, numerous medicinal, psychotherapeutic, psychocorrective, and psychological-pedagogical methods of overcoming selective mutism in children have been developed. However, sometimes they are often used without taking into account the age characteristics of children (such as: the current period of development, social situation of development, leading activities, age-related psychological changes) and their individual abilities (temperament, psychotype, accentuation of character, personal traits).

Therefore, to increase the reliability of diagnosis and treatment of diseases with multifactorial etiology, modern highly specialized specialists must have the opportunity to promptly receive the necessary information from specialists in related fields, and sometimes from specialists in other fields of science. To increase the reliability of the diagnosis and the effectiveness of the process of overcoming selective mutism in children of older preschool age, we suggest using a system approach to organize these processes.

This approach is focused on revealing the integrity of the process of overcoming selective mutism, taking into account all internal and external connections of its participants, as well as comprehensive coverage of all factors affecting the child's health and the process of his recovery.
